The Guthrie Cross Country teams had a busy day this past Saturday (Aug.28) as the high school teams ran in Mustang at the Mustang Night Race and the GJHS team ran in Kingfisher that morning.
The Guthrie Junior High School Boys’ team got the day started with a first-place finish at the Kingfisher meet. The boys would finish 2-7-9-12-20 to claim the title with 50 points, beating out Binger-Oney Junior High by 22 points. Reid Watson led the way around the two-mile course in 12:49.22. Jaxson Mayer was seventh in 13:24.25 with Jayden Countess running 13:31.65 to have three Guthrie runners in the top ten. Isaac Talley and Ayden Potter would round out the scoring in 12th and 20th places. Josiah Dement and Aiden Foster were right behind in 22nd and 23rd place.
Kingfisher is one of those races that does not limit teams to enter kids to run so, Guthrie also entered Adrian Williams, Zach Allen, Grayson Schlabach, Mason Russell, Jaxton Brown, Holden Ingram, Nathan Cutter, Aiden Harden, Tad Talley, and Tristen Hester. Great job by all the kids running.
On the GJHS girls’ race, Guthrie finished in fifth place as they scored 124 points finishing 14-18-26-31-35 in the race. Taylor Schroeder led the way with a time of 7:01.97 in the mile race. Addison Poupard finished right behind with a time of 7:03.46. Jayden Alexander, Avelyn Sallee, Jaedyn Dolan closed out the scoring for Guthrie.
Ally Carey, Scout Evans, Krystee Botello, Tatum Brown, Riley Pierson, Kylee Canary, Sheyanne Cossey, Addy Seifert, Lindy Huddleston, Avery Foshee, and Lacie Canary all got to participate in the race.
Just a note, that there were fifth and sixth graders running in this race and finishing it for Guthrie, which means a bright future for Guthrie cross country and distance running as they stay with it.
The Guthrie Lady Bluejays finished in sixth place in their event in Mustang as there were 125 runners overall and 88 runners in the Class 6A-5A division.
Hannah Smith (22:47.03), Kamryn Boller, (22:47.36), Peyton Read (22:49.16) and Gracie Ball (22:51.96) would finish 29-30-31-33 in the field with Raley Hooper (23:15.83) and Maddie Bishop (23:22.38) finishing 37-38 in the race that cover the 5K course (3.1 miles).
