The Guthrie High School (GHS) music department kicks off their annual musical tomorrow night at the Faver Auditorium. The show, Seussical is being delayed a day by the weather issues earlier this week and will now conclude on Tuesday night (March 11) with an 8 p.m. show due to parent-teacher conferences.
The performances are now scheduled for tomorrow night, a Saturday afternoon matinee (3 p.m.) and a Saturday night show (7:30 p.m.) and the Tuesday night show. There are 28 students involved in the production of the show with Jacob Willhoite being featured as the Cat in the Hat.
Seussical is a musical by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty and originally opened on Broadway in 2000 and closed in 2001 after only 198 performances. So if you are a fan of Dr. Seuss books such as Horton Hears a Who, Green Eggs and Ham or The Cat in the Hat this would be a fun show to see come to life in Guthrie.
The show will have Betty Berline on keyboards and GHS Band Director Rob Blackburn on the drums will be the primary accompanist for the show. Among some of the songs from the original show that one might hear include, “Oh, the Thinks You Can Think,” “Our Story Begins,” “Horton Hears a Who,” “A Day for the Cat in the Hat,” “The One Feather Tail of Miss Gertrude McFuzz,” “Amayzing Mayzie,” and “Amazing Gertrude.”
