Ropp Wins Council Seat, Stipend Proposition Fails

Last night’s elections resulted in a new council member and the partial resolution of a thorny civic issue.

Adam Ropp came away with the victory in the election for the Ward 1 council seat, defeating Kaley Mills by a percentage of 77.89% to 22.11%, with very good voter turnout. The race had great engagement from both candidates, who each offered good unique skills and experience to bring to bear in service of the city, but voters overwhelmingly demonstrated they preferred Mr. Ropp’s approach and ideas. “I want to thank everyone who came out for me and showed support over the past few months. I am truly humbled. Let’s move Guthrie forward together,” Ropp commented in response to his victory.

Also, Guthrie voters closely rejected the proposition to provide city council members with a $300 monthly stipend. The final tally was 52.47% to 47.53%. It remains to be seen whether the council will revisit the stipend idea with different amounts or terms, or if it has been put to bed for now.
