As you read this article today, there is little doubt that many will pass it off as the simple thoughts of a radical conservative who is “simply out of touch with today’s style of Christian worship”. I will be thought of as “old school”…still living in the 1970’s…refusing to “adapt with the times” in regards to our relationship with God. However, if you feel that way about me by the end of this article, I would respectfully ask you to re-consider your opinion. Could it be possible that YOU might be the one who has grown “out of touch” in regards to the TRUE worship of the Lord God?

Make no mistake, people can become not only lost in the world…BUT ALSO “lost in the pews” of their local church. All it takes is a subtle drift away from the true, pure, unadulterated word of God. The word, “unadulterated” is an interesting word. It means pure, clean, not tampered with or added to…in its absolutely purest form. When people mess with the word of God by adding their own opinions and personal beliefs to it, God’s word becomes “adulterated”. The dictionary defines “adulterate” as, “to render poorer in quality by adding another substance, typically an inferior one.” This is saying that when we “add an inferior substance”, such as our human opinions and beliefs, to the word of God, it makes the word of God NO LONGER the word of God…but an “inferior word”…OUR word blended with God’s word. And unfortunately, OUR WORD WILL NOT save a human soul…BUT ONLY GOD’S PURE AND HOLY WORD…UNADULTERATED.

We seem to always think of “adultery” as relations between two “unmarried people”…and it is. But the word “adultery” is NOT LIMITED to this scenario alone. “Adultery” simply means, “unintended relations” between two entities that were NEVER MEANT to be joined together. Examples of such entities are: Truth and falseness, The Truth and The Lie, good and evil, saved and unsaved, the Kingdom of God and the world, love and hate, heaven and hell, and life and death. When we mix our worldly beliefs with the word of God, we are committing adultery against God. We are worshiping a “false gospel”. This is also called “apostasy”, the “drifting away from the pure faith” in God, which the Scriptures have warned us about.

We read in the book of Matthew, “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.” (Matt 24:12). Today, more than any other time in the history of the world, it seems that love for each other has hit rock bottom. It looks as though people could not care less about each other. Even family members seem to care so much less about each other than they used to. And look at ourselves as Christian believers. We sit in the church pews each week, not truly caring about others. We just cannot seem to get beyond caring for ourselves, before we even consider caring for anyone else. We’re always “looking out for number one”, but never understanding that “number one” IS NOT OURSELVES. We want the church to care only about us…to look after us…to pray for us…to take care of us…to teach us…to love us…BUT WE RARELY CARE FOR ANYONE OUTSIDE OF THE CHURCH DOORS…the people who are lost and condemned, as the word of God teaches. We watch the world stumble into hell, one person at a time, without even a thought of sharing the Gospel of Christ with them. All we seem to care about is ourselves! This must change, and quickly! Every moment counts. Will you snatch as many from the fire as you can, or will you remain “seated on your blessed assurance” and not lift a finger to help save the lost? Is such a person actually saved?
