Funeral services for Voneta Maxine (Denny) Sears, 91, of Guthrie, OK, will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 10, 2021 at First Southern Baptist Church in Guthrie. Interment will follow at Oakland-Knowles Cemetery in Crescent, OK. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, 220 North 1st St., Guthrie, OK 73044.
Voneta was born in Crescent on July 13, 1930 to Clyde W. Denny and Florence Sylvia (Cullen) Denny. She went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 5, 2021 in Guthrie.
She married Everett Leroy Sears on July 17, 1948 and together they had two daughters, Sharen Bowers and Dianna Johnson. She was a lifelong, active member of First Southern Baptist Church in Guthrie where she made many friends, played piano for services and sang in the choir. Voneta loved music, as well as playing piano, she also learned to play the organ and the dulcimer.
Voneta was the secretary for the Grand Lodge for over 20 years. After retiring, Voneta and her husband owned and operated LVS ceramics for 23 years. She loved to paint in all mediums from watercolor to oils. She was also an avid cook. Voneta loved to feed her family and friends. She turned her love of cooking into MeMa’s Kitchen where she made Jams and Jellies in her commercial kitchen.
Voneta is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leroy; her brother, Wallace Denny; and her two daughters, Sharen and Dianna.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Steve Bowers and wife, Sherri; granddaughter, Sharman Jones and husband, Shawn, granddaughter, Stephanie Hastings and husband, Scott, grandson, Jeremiah Johnson, and grandson, Shane Bowers and wife, Marissa. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, Shayla, John and Rachel Jones, Landon Hastings and wife, Brittney, Sarah, Connor, and Maddison Hastings, Emma Montgomery and husband, Nathan and Ayden Bowers and two great-greatgrandchildren, Clara and Violet Hastings.
