Robin Renee Gooch passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of October 22nd, 2022. While none of us were ready to say goodbye, we’re left with a deep sense of gratitude and love for who she was.
Robin was so many things to so many people. She was born in 1962, the oldest of five siblings. She was a daughter to Dean and Jacqueline Carroll. She was a sister to Mary, Jackie, Jenny and Richard. She was a mother to Jake, Lacey and son-in-law Blake, and Matthew and daughter-in-law Catherine. She was a grandma, or “Yaya”, to Audra, Talan, Ava, Beckham, Brooke, and Hazel.
Robin was a wife and best friend to Jimmy. They first met in high school in the 1970’s. While dating, Robin once had to leave for a funeral in California. Her absence made Jimmy’s heart grow fonder, and upon her return, Jimmy presented her with two different dates that Robin was to choose from for their wedding day (nobody told Jimmy you typically ask someone to marry you). The story goes that she either obliged or at least didn’t put up too much of a fuss as they were soon married at a little country church in Coyle, Oklahoma on April 1st, 1982. They were happily married thereafter for over 40 years.
They loved road trips, going to breakfast together, and spending time with their kids and grandkids. She loved to make big plans for a large garden in the spring, and promptly delegate those same plans to Jimmy to execute.
She was a tamer of stray cats. She once found a stray in the alley behind her office and brought him home to their spare bedroom. Through scratch marks and love bites, and to the dismay of Jimmy, she slowly introduced her new cat, Petey, into their home. Permission to adopt Petey was an afterthought.
She was a cheerful servant to her customers for 17 years at Triplett’s Accounting in downtown Guthrie. When a fire displaced their business in 2019, she was a critical resource to their customers and to the business.
She was considered a friend by so many… too many to name. If you knew Robin at all, you knew how cheerful she always was. She loved to laugh and found humor in things big and small. She was never in two places at once. When she was with her family, she was fully theirs. While at work, a servant to others. While on vacation, simply a beach bum!
She was the giver of coffee to grandchildren far too young to adopt caffeine as a vice.
She was the buyer of way too many Christmas presents.
She was known for getting “creative” in her strategies when playing family card games.
She was a cook and a coffee lover. She had a green thumb like nobody you’ve ever met. She could grow a tropical plant in the corner of a dark room. If you had a plant on its last leg, you brought it to Robin to be nursed back to life.
Robin was so many things to so many people. She will be missed badly by her family and everyone that knew her.
