Raymond L. Brookshire, 84, died June 4th, 2023, in Tyler, Texas, with his family by his side.
Ray was born December 16, 1938, in Guthrie, Oklahoma to James and Orene Brookshire. He graduated from Guthrie High school in 1958. Ray worked for Safeway Grocery for 24 years. He began his career while in high school and completed his career as a store manager in Ponca City, Oklahoma. In 1981, he and his wife, Judy, opened Ray’s Easy Shop convenience stores in Garber and Billings, Oklahoma. Ray retired in 2000 and they moved to Guthrie to be near family. Ray did not know idleness. He kept busy raising cows and chickens and selling trailers. As a couple, they enjoyed the antiquing business, never passing up a garage sale or auction.
Ray was an active member of Community Church in Guthrie. For many years, you would see Ray mowing the church’s grass, working the back-to-school carnival, serving in the local soup kitchen, and serving donuts each Sunday.
