Graveside memorial services for Raymond Dee Majors will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, 220 North 1st St., Guthrie, OK 73044.
Raymond Dee Majors was born on September 6, 1941 and passed away on April 28, 2021 at the age of 79. Raymond was born in Coyle, Oklahoma to Benjamin and Ellen (Brisendine) Majors. He married Sharon Kay (Greenwell) Majors on November 18, 1960 and resided in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
Raymond was in a tractor farming accident when he was eight years old. This resulted in an extensive recovery process that lasted over a year at both Children’s and Guthrie Hospital. He had countless skin graphs and surgeries to repair the damage to his foot. He always found a way to make the best out of every situation. He fondly recalled the activities and care that the staff provided. Raymond told many stories about his time spent at the hospital. Raymond had an adventurous and mischievous spirit. While being true to this spirit, Raymond had a chance encounter with his future wife. While hiding from the nurses, he ran into another young patient’s room and hid under her bed. That little girl was Sharon. Raymond and Sharon often retold this story and laughed about their first chance encounter.
Raymond loved riding motorcycles, camping, and fishing. He spent every October at Canton Lake with his sister Carolyn and her husband Clinton, along with numerous other family members. Raymond, Clinton, and Larry Don enjoyed many hunting adventures together. He also loved riding his motorcycle with his grandson Ben. Raymond worked in the coal mines in Colorado at an early age before moving back to Guthrie and beginning his life with Sharon. He began driving Semi-Trucks across the country, and he was very proud of his career. He even earned a gold “million-mile” watch for the achievement of driving one million miles accident free. Raymond was ornery, mischievous, adventurous, fun, and always had a toothpick in his mouth. Most importantly, he loved his family with his whole heart and would do anything for them. Raymond spent a lot of time with his daughter, Sandra, and her husband Brett. You would rarely see Raymond without them, whether it was at their house, or going on mini adventures. He wholeheartedly loved being with them. Raymond loved and cherished his grandkids,
