Phillip (Phil) Horace Morrow, 67, of Guthrie, OK was born on August 1, 1955 in Guthrie and entered into eternal life on September 30, 2022; at his home at the age of 67.
Phil attended Guthrie schools K-12th grade and was a proud graduate of Guthrie High school, Class of 1973. After high school, Phil took a year off and went to work for his father at the Oklahoma Furniture Factory and the Mississippi Furniture Factory before enrolling at Oklahoma State University (OSU). While at OSU Phil played trumpet in the OSU Marching Band and cemented his love for all things Cowboys. This love later developed into being a lifetime alumni member and a football season ticket holder for over a decade. While season ticket holders Phil and his wife, Jennifer were traveling Cowboys. They would go to at least one away game each year and to the bowl games at the end of the season. A couple highlights were the Holiday Bowl in San Diego where they went to the San Diego Zoo and on a whale watching tour with his sister Georgeanna, nephew Matthew, and Patrick McCombie. Another highlight was the 2011 Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, AZ when OSU narrowly beat Stanford and became the Big XII Champions.
Phil had many jobs during his working career from mattress maker, cookware and car salesman, and tech support but the two jobs that impacted his life the most were police officer for the Guthrie Police Department in the 1980’s and then reservation agent for Hertz Rent a Car where he met Jennifer, his wife and the love of his life of nearly 26 years. Phil retired in 2000 enabling him to spend extra time with his parents and enjoy his many hobbies.
Phil and Jennifer took every opportunity they had to travel and make memories together. They traveled by car coast to coast, border to border and even into Canada. Together they visited 38 different states and 13 National Parks. Phil’s other hobbies included concerts; Christian, Country and 80’s Rock and Roll (he loved the “Hair Bands”), slot machines and coin collecting. Over the last 2 years Phil’s joy of coin collecting was rekindled thanks to a group of You-Tubers. Phil subscribed to multiple coin collecting streams and quickly became a beloved member of the coin community. He had even started his own YouTube stream (Avardcurt) and was looking forward to live streaming.
Phil was a loving husband, cat daddy, brother, uncle and friend. He had a big personality and a generous spirit. Phil dreamed of owning his own cat ranch but he knew that wouldn’t happen so he did all he could to support our local non-profit TNR, Helping Community Paws and Claws. He loved and wanted all of the rescued kitties but Jennifer wouldn’t let him have them all.
Phil was preceded in death by his father, Lewis B. Morrow, Jr; mother, Susie (Poplin) Morrow; brother, Micah Morrow; sister, Georgeanna (Morrow) McCombie; brother- in-law, Keith Mackie and father-in-law, Johny Swisher.
