Mickey L. Mock

Mickey L. Mock, 75, of Guthrie, Okla. passed away on May 9, 2021. She was born on March 12, 1946 in Guthrie to Chester and Helen Mock.

Mickey spent all of her life in Guthrie, where she graduated from Guthrie High School and went on to attend Central State University, graduating with a bachelor of Science degree. Mickey worked at Logan Medical Center for several years before beginning her long-term career at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. She worked for St. Anthony’s for 37 years, earning an award for years of service. She worked in food service as well as the doctor’s answering service. She retired from St. Anthony’s in 2010.

Although Mickey spent years traveling back and forth to OKC for work, her true love was traveling the United States with her mother. Her most memorable trip was to Alaska, following the death of her father. She said she remembers her mother just wanting to get away and they didn’t have any plan but just drove and drove and were gone for multiple weeks taking in the sites. They traveled across the country but would eventually find their “home away from home” in Branson, Mo. where they would travel multiple times a year. Through the years, they would create relationships with the entertainers, so much so that one comedian, “Homer Lee” would regularly call to check on her and send her cards as recent as her birthday in March. In later years, she enjoyed traveling with her best friend, Mary Lou Welch.

Mickey took pride in caring for her mother until her death in 2002 and continued to miss her every day, so it was only fitting that she passed away on Mother’s Day. There is no doubt that there was a joyous reunion in heaven for her and all of her family, who she has seen leave this earth. Mickey is preceded in death by her father, Chester Mock; mother, Helen Mock and sister Kay Johnston.

Mickey, although she never married or had children of her own, truly loved her niece and nephew as though they were her own children. She was called “Mick” by them and her great nieces and nephews and was always interested in everything that was going on in their lives. She is survived by all of them including Brian and wife, Danise Johnston, children Mikayla, Abby, Aspen and Hollie; Karen and husband, John Allen, children Alex and Zach. She is also survived by her brother-in law Tommy Johnston, and wife Sharon of Edmond.

Mickey was a member of First Christian Church in Guthrie and in lieu of flowers would ask that donations be made to the First Christian Church “General Fund.”

The family wishes to thank all of Mickey’s friends and those who helped take care of her at Perry Green Valley Nursing Home and Golden Age Nursing Home in the past couple years. You have brought comfort to her and to us.

Per Mickey’s wishes, casual dress, graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 13 with Rev. Ronnie Fields officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, 220 North 1st St., Guthrie, OK 73044.
