Mary Lou Welch

Mary Lou Welch, 83, went to her heavenly home on November 10, 2021. Mary Lou was born to Ed and Juanita Phillips in Guthrie, OK on September 26, 1938.

Mary Lou and her siblings worked the family farm milking cows. She attended Guthrie schools all through her school years.

She married Paul David Welch on May 25, 1956 and enjoyed 61 years of marriage and had three children. She and her husband were known for their large Thanksgiving gatherings each year where they fed many state/county workers along with friends and family; these gatherings were known to reach over 50 people throughout the day. Her home was always open for everyone and no one ever walked away with an empty stomach.

Her work experience only included two employers; she worked for her brother as cashier/bookkeeper for many years and then for Bowman’s Wrecker service as bookkeeper/ dispatcher for the last 27 years.

She is preceded in death by her newborn son, her parents, and her husband Paul.

She is survived by her sister Darlene (Peggy) Lawyer of Meridian OK; brother Charlie Phillips and wife Dorothy of Guthrie OK; daughter Kathy Beier and husband Ronnie of Perry OK; son David Welch and wife Joyce of Beaver OK. She is also survived by grandchildren: Maggie Johnston, Darby Ellis, Marissa Layton, Tyler Welch and wife Kalie, Trey Cole and wife Katelyn, and Nicole Welch as well as nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 A.M., Monday, November 15, 2021 at Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie, OK. Associate Pastor, Karen Allen with First Christian Church will officiate the services. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, 220 North 1st St., Guthrie, OK 73044.

There will be a viewing at Smith-Gallo Funeral Home on Sunday, November 14th, 2021 from 12:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to the First Christian Church, 402 E. Noble Avenue, Guthrie, OK 73044.
