Calvin Eugene Dewberry

Calvin Eugene Dewberry was born September 21, 1942 in Seward, OK to Marcellus and Bernice Dewberry.

Calvin attended Page Elementary School and graduated from Faver High School in 1960. He was an outstanding athlete in the sports of basketball and football and also played in the high school band. Immediately after high school, Calvin enlisted in the US Army and served his country from November 1962 until he was honorably discharged in June 1968. He was stationed in Homestead, Florida and Okinawa, Japan He briefly returned home to marry Donnia Speight in November 1962. During his military service he was honored as an Expert in Rifle, a Marksman on M14 Rifle and was granted the Good Conduct Medal. He also continued his athletic career while in the Military, participating and coaching several basketball teams.

In 1968, Calvin began his civilian career by working at Tinker AF Base in OKC as a mechanic. He retired from TAFB in Dec 1990. He continued his working career and was employed as a Voluntary Deputy for Guthrie Law Enforcement, Guthrie Job Corp Center, Guthrie Public School (as a bus driver), and Cedar Valley Golf Course. During his adult life, he continued his involvement in sports, playing and coaching basketball and slow pitch softball. He was able to travel to Las Vegas to participate in the USSSA Men’s Major Slow Pitch World Series where they won first place, and he was awarded a world series ring which he proudly wore. He also took up golf, playing weekly with his friends.

Calvin will be remembered for his stylish dress, his charming smile and his clean cars. Everyone knew he was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan (how about them Cowboys). He will also be remembered for his friendly competitive spirit. He was lovingly known by the nickname “Dew” to his family and friends.

Calvin departed this life May 23, 2022 and leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his homegoing: his beloved mother: Bernice; two daughters: LaDonnia Holmes (Sam) of Tulsa, OK, Aretha Clark (Cody) of Moore, OK; Eight grandkids: Christopher Clark, Nathaniel Williams (Crystal), Monaye Williams, Tamaira Williams, Gracie Clark, Victoria Vaughn (Blake), Gabrielle Clark, Madison Bell and Zane Clark; five great-grandkids: Bryson, Ellysa, Olivia, Chey, Carli and Kaydence; three sisters: Charlesetta Jennings, Cheryl Gordon (Tony) and Cynthia Smith; two brothers: Carl Dewberry and Clarence Dewberry (Sharon); a host of nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father: Marcellus, two sisters: Catherine Walker and Charlene Grayson, niece Latrenda Shaneen Phillips and nephew Garrick King.
