Statement from Guthrie Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Mike Simpson

regarding the outcome of the August 27, 2024, school bond election.

Over the past nine years, we have consistently shown a commitment to keeping our promises
to the community with regard to their money. Today, our community again showed their trust
in us to provide a quality education with the resources we have asked for from our taxpayers.
Our teachers and staff continue to place kids first and we can now take the next step to provide
our community with necessary facility improvements.

This is the largest bond issue ever approved by our district and comes with a very high
percentage of approval. It is truly humbling to think how much work has gone into this effort. I
want to publicly thank Kristal Flury and Nick O’Connell who captained the “Yes” team.
Watching our students, teachers and parents on the street today promoting the vote shows this
was truly a community once again coming together.

Just as in 2015 and 2019, we don’t take the trust shown by the community lightly. We must
continue to be mindful that we have an obligation to the community to continue showing the
trust we earned was deserved. Tonight, we celebrate success and show gratitude to everyone
that supported our children today. In the end our kids and community won again.
