Boller, Mayer lead Guthrie cross country teams at crowded Carl Albert Invitational

Guthrie High’s cross country teams stepped up a level in competition last week at the Carl Albert Titan Invitational and ran away with Top 10 finishes.

In the varsity girls race that covered 5,000 meters, the Lady Bluejays finished fifth (192 points) behind Piedmont (67), Edmond North (74), Edmond Memorial (86) and Yukon (99).

There were 179 girls in this race and Guthrie’s Kamryn Boller finished 10th with a time of 21:17.53. The Lady Bluejays also recorded finishes at 31-32-34 from Raley Hooper (22:32.45), Hannah Smith (22:37.28) and Peyton Read (22:41.82). Cameron Ireton added a time of 25:33.88. Gracie Ball and Kristie Botello also raced, but were not scored in the points chase.

Guthrie’s boys placed 10th (282 points) in the team standings. Edmond North (21 points) led the way, ahead of Piedmont (48). Class 6A schools Mustang Yukon, Edmond Santa Fe and Westmore also were ahead of the Bluejays, as were Class 5A schools Guymon, Elgin and Blanchard.

There were 193 boys entered in the race and junior Mason Mayer led the Bluejays with an 11thplace finish, covering the 5,000-meter course in 17:36.20. Senior Lance Sallee finished 24th in 18:13.82. Riley Wilkerson (19:25.94) finished 58th, while Gideon Hiel (19:58.06) and Eli Fortney (20:18.20) wrapped up the scoring for the Bluejays. Teammate Landen Dixon also competed.

The boys also entered a junior varsity team, part of the 313 runners in that race. The Bluejays finished ninth (282 points), well behind Edmond North (21) and Piedmont (45).

Isaiah Blevins led the way with a 16th-place finish in 19:46.63. Other runners included JJ Countess, Kallon Cyphers, Corbin Madison, Isaac Talley, Reid Watson, Lael Dressen, James Bickell, Jeremiah Waters, Emilio Cota and Talon Perrine.
