Lady Bluejays go 3-0 in district play last week

The Guthrie Lady Bluejays went 3-0 in some critical district softball games last week. The week started with El Reno coming to town on August 23. The Lady Bluejays scored three runs in the second and third innings and made the runs hold up for a 6-2 win.

Kinley Duehning went the distance in the circle to record the win. McKenna Tucker led the way with three of Guthrie’s 11 hits in the game. Ashlee Eichler and Sage Driscoll chipped in with two apiece.

The Lady Bluejays then took a road trip to Guymon and Shattuck on August 25 and 26. The non-district game in Shattuck could only muster one run on four hits in a 9-1 loss in five innings.

The girls bounced back on Friday in Guymon and swept a district doubleheader 12-2 and 4-1 to improve to 7-1 in district play. In the 12-2 win, Guthrie had 17 hits led by Haley Gallo who had a home run among her four hits. Gallo drove in three runs and scored four times. Tucker also had a home run and three hits in the first game, drove in three runs and scored twice. Abbie and Ashlee Eichler each had two hits in the game. Ava Hebensperger also chipped in with three hits.

Duehning went the distance in game one for the win.

Tucker took the mound in game two allowing three hits and the one run to post the win. Guthrie only had nine hits for the entire game. Duehning and Abbie Eichler had home runs in the game, each driving in a run. Gallo had two hits to contribute to the cause.

The Lady Bluejays where scheduled to play Capitol Hill in district action Monday night and Enid and Putnam City in nondistrict games Tuesday and Thursday before getting the Labor Day weekend off. Bishop McGuiness visits Guthrie next Tuesday at the softball complex.
