The Logan County Genealogical Society held a celebratory luncheon on Saturday

The Logan County Genealogical Society held a celebratory luncheon on Saturday, November 20, 2021, in honor of its 40th anniversary, at the Oklahoma Territorial Museum in Guthrie. Debbie Longnecker gave a brief talk about the formation of the organization. The LCGS was founded April 22, 1981 with 38 charter members, two of whom were present, Debbie Longnecker and Nelda Brown. A video was presented which consisted of photos from many LCGS albums.

The organization has served the community by offering a research library, assisting with genealogy research, having a website, publishing a helpful newsletter, conducting genealogy workshops and seminars, hosting several Ancestor Fairs, and presenting educational programs at meetings.

Preservation of genealogical resource material is an on-going project. One such project was the distribution of photographic negatives of the Al Bryan collection to subjects and/or descendants. LCGS also issues an '89er Pioneer Certificate to someone who is a direct descendant of a person who lived in the Unassigned Lands or Oklahoma Territory between April 22, 1889 and September 22, 1891.

Today, the group is working on a project to return original unclaimed marriage certificates (Logan County marriages) to descendants of the bride or groom from the 1890's to the 1940's.
