Guthrie Public Schools Addresses Recent Student Discipline Matter

Recently, district administrators were made aware of a student conduct issue that  occurred off-campus involving racial slurs. District personnel stopped the conduct and  reported it to administration. Those involved have been disciplined as provided for in the  student code of conduct. All district policies have been followed in dealing with such  situations. Investigation into this matter continues in order to ensure that anyone  involved is identified and punished.

Guthrie Public Schools will continue to fully and uniformly enforce our zero-tolerance  policy with regard to racial slurs that are addressed specifically in district handbooks  and GPS Board of Education Policy.

Quotes from GPS Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson:

Due to recent issues on a statewide level, we were already exploring educational  opportunities to promote building a more inclusive environment within our district. We  will continue to focus on improving our learning environment districtwide. Because this  specific matter involves students we will have no further comment at this time
