The holiday season is set to sparkle in Guthrie with the return of the A Very Merry Guthrie Christmas. From November 30 through December 28, the beloved Christmas Lights in the Cottonwood Flats Drive-Thru will illuminate the town with festive cheer, featuring over 100,000 lights across more than 40 different displays that have become a local family tradition since 2020, as well as a worthy addition to historic Guthrie’s regular holiday season activities.
The Cottonwood Flats Drive-Thru Light Display will run Sunday through Thursday from 6 PM to 9 PM, and Friday through Saturday from 6 PM to 10 PM. Guests can enjoy the magical journey through seven blocks of lights, including 70+ wrapped trees, wireframe displays, inflatables, and other decorations, all from the comfort of their vehicles. The entrance is located at 802 W. Warner Avenue, and organizers emphasize that this is a drive-thru event only, and no walking is allowed. The event is free of charge, though donations are accepted at the end of the drive-thru.
Adding to the excitement this year is a special one-day Festival on Saturday, December 21, from 2 PM to 9 PM. Located near the intersection of 7th and Mansur Street, the festival will feature food trucks, pop-up shops, and a silent auction. Car enthusiasts can look forward to the Car Show and Lighted Cruise beginning at 6 PM.
Finally, families can settle in for the grand finale: a spectacular 20-minute fireworks show at 8 PM. The fireworks display, provided by Guthrie’s own Fireworkz A’ Poppin’, promises unique effects not seen in standard shows. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or watch from their vehicles, as no one will be permitted on 5th Street from College Ave to Warner Ave during the show.
A Very Merry Guthrie Christmas is more than just lights and festivities. As a 100% nonprofit 501(c)(3) public charity, the event is dedicated to brightening the holidays for the Guthrie community. Its mission includes delivering Christmas gifts to residents of Guthrie nursing homes and supporting families in need throughout Logan County.
Organizers invite families, friends, and visitors to experience Guthrie’s community spirit and Christmas magic. Best of all, the lights and festival are just a hop, skip, and jump away from the beautiful historic downtown area, where locals and out-of-towners alike can enjoy unique shops and down-home food and drinks to celebrate the season.
Whether you’re marveling at the light displays, shopping for unique finds at the festival, or watching fireworks light up the winter sky, the Cottonwood Flats area is the perfect place to celebrate the season.
