Tigers win playoff opener; rematch with Mooreland next

Crescent High’s punishing ground game accounted for 244 yards, Tanner Rice scored five touchdowns, and the Tigers’ defense collected 12 tackles for loss in a 46-14 rout of visiting Dibble in Friday night’s Class A playoff opener.

The Tigers (9-1) are back in action this Friday at home against Mooreland (6-5) in a rematch of the season opener in which Crescent won 7-0 on a late fourth-quarter touchdown.

Against Dibble (5-6), the Tigers ran the ball 44 of their 52 plays and completed just four passes for 33 yards.

Dibble actually took an 8-0 first-quarter lead before Rice scored three times in the second quarter on runs of 4, 2 and 5 yards, and with the two-point conversions all successful, it was 24-8 at the half.

Rice notched his fourth touchdown in the third quarter and added a fifth on a 14-yard fourthquarter pass from Colby Watson.

Kade Varner also scored in the fourth quarter on a 23-yard run.

Rice had 23 carries for 137 yards and the one catch.

Dibble had 200 yards in total offense.

Defensively, Tylan Neugent led the way with seven tackles and two tackles for loss. Ryan Henley and Gabe South each had five tackles.

Mooreland, which beat Mangum 64- 19 last week, has bounced back after losing its first three games to Crescent, Pawnee and Minco in nondistrict action. Mooreland outgained the Tigers 245209 in the season opener.

The winner advances to a third-round game on Thanksgiving weekend against the winner of Gore-Woodland game.
