A blown tire late Sunday night led to a head-on accident that claimed the life of an Edmond woman in Logan County. The accident occurred at approximately 9:21 p.m. on Highway 74 and Highway 33, 6.5 miles west of Guthrie.
Virginia Hill, 58, of Edmond was a passenger in a car driven by Summer Jimenez, 22, of Harrah going southbound on Highway 74 when the accident occurred. Alfonso Herrera, 36, of Enid was northbound on Highway 74 when his front driver side tire blew out, causing the 1991 Chevy Silverado he was driving to go left of center and head on into the Jimenez vehicle.
Hill was transported to Mercy Hospital Logan County where she was then Medi-flighted to OU Medical Center and pronounced dead by the medical staff following injuries to the head and trunk area.
Jimenez was transported to OU Medical Center as well by ambulance and was last reported in fair condition with internal trunk injuries.
Herrera was transported to Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City and was treated and released. Two juveniles were in the Herrera vehicle, and they were both admitted to OU Children’s Hospital with injuries and last reported in good condition.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol report indicates the two juveniles were not using seatbelts, but Herrera was. Hill and Jimenez both had seatbelts on.
Guthrie Police Department and Miller EMS responded to the accident. OHP completed the investigation.
