The Pollard Theatre’s 9th Annual Art & Soul Gala was held on August 10, at Oak Tree Country Club. Friends and patrons of the Pollard enjoyed an evening of hot hors d’oeuvres, silent auction, dinner, and dancing. Some of the Pollard’s most memorable performers, including Ellie Valdez, Emily Pace, Jared Blount, Matthew Alvin Brown, Seth Paden and Pollard’s own Producing Artistic Director, W. Jerome Stevenson, entertained the audience with some of Broadway’s most unforgettable musicals, including Little Shop of Horrors, Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, and Come From Away.
Auction items included exclusive trips, from fishing to romantic getaways, fine art, jewelry, and electronics. Proceeds from the auction benefit the Pollard Theatre Company and the 33rd Season.
Corporate sponsored tables were decorated with themed centerpieces representing one of the six shows from the upcoming 33rd Season. Driving Miss Daisy (August 23 – September 7) was sponsored by F & M Bank, Mercedes Benz, and Ash Street Place and had a silver tea set, vintage luggage trunks, vases full of baby’s breath and miniature daisies, hand laced handkerchiefs, and an authentic vintage chauffeur’s hat. The table was decorated by Pollard Board member Evan Dargen.
Mike and Liz Sterkel sponsored a table decorated with gold chargers and place cards, vintage boxes, cards, letters, chocolates and long stem red roses for the Valentine’s production of Love Letters. The table was decorated by designer and patron of the Pollard Theatre, Rick Poston, owner of House of Poston.
Dr. Jim and Theresa Dewhurst sponsored Puffs, or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic. The table was decorated with magic wands, candles, sorcerer’s hats, stuffed dragons, and an assortment of spells. The table was decorated by board member Suzanne Hirzel.
Disc jockey Tom Sawyer provided the rest of the evening’s entertainment by playing 60’s and 70’s music while guests danced the night away.
