2018 marks centenary of WWI

We honor those who gave their lives in the service of their country far from home and those who returned forever changed by the experience. May we never forget the ones who answered the call or neglect to honor those currently in service. See our Veterans Day special section included inside today’s paper.

 

In honor of the thousands of Oklahomans who have served in the military, citizens and organizations across Logan County will honor their sacrifice in a variety of Veterans Day celebrations. Observances include special presentations and receptions, but the annual Veterans Day Parade in Guthrie has been cancelled due to freezing temperatures and chances of snow in the forecast for Monday, November 12.  More details and times are listed below.

• The Presentation of Colors, National Anthem and Invocation scheduled to be held at Honor Park have been relocated to the north gym at Guthrie High School beginning at 10:30 a.m. 

A coffee and donut reception at the American Legion will immediately follow the Veterans Day program at the high school courtesy of the Guthrie Epsilon Sigma Alpha chapter.

• A program with special guest Major General Michael Thompson will include music performed by Gus and Rockets Branch Band of Ft. Sill in Lawton, OK and The Logan County Heritage Choir is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church located at 222 N.E. Hale in Langston.

All area veterans are invited to attend the annual Guthrie High School Veterans Day Assembly on Tuesday, November 13th, at 11:20 a.m. in the Guthrie High School Gymnasium. Special floor seating will be provided for all veterans.
