Guthrie Free Methodist Church is hosting Community Day: Ice and Art at Banner Park on Saturday July 27. The event is free and open to the public. Free snow cones from Snow Tyme will be available for the first 50 children. It starts at 5 p.m. and people are more than welcome to come and go as they please.
Dana Mosman, a church member, said that the idea for Community Day came from a simple yet poignant place: be kind to one another.
“We have this general guiding verse that helps us plan how we function as a church and it’s Ephesians 4:32—be kind to one another,” Mosman said. “We want to be kind to our fellow humans. It’s very simple and that’s our goal; just to be kind to everyone.”
Mosman has witnessed firsthand the area’s rejuvenation after the Banner Park remodel and wanted to organize another event that celebrated and contributed to the growth of the community.
Along with the treats from Snow Tyme, other activities include sidewalk chalk that will already be set out, rock painting and a few games that were actually made by a fellow church member. An area for prayer requests will also be available for any attendees that would like to participate.
“It’s all very low key so that people can come and go as they wish,” Mosman said.
