The local basketball teams return to the courts this week after a two week holiday break and jump right into tournament action that will see most teams play three games in three days starting tomorrow.
One of the best small school tournaments in the state is right up Highway 77 in Mulhall this weekend. The Coyle Boys and Girls’ teams are both seeded second behind Varnum. The Mulhall-Orlando boys are seeded sixth and face Drumright (7-1) tomorrow night at 7:20 p.m. The Lady Panthers will play Verden (6-6) at 3:20 p.m. tomorrow. The tournament ends with championship games at 6 p.m. (Girls) and 7:30 p.m. (Boys) on Saturday night.
The Guthrie teams are headed to two different tournaments this weekend. The boys are going to Weatherford and play Elgin (3-3) at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow. Lawton Eisenhower and Tuttle are on the other side of the Bluejays bracket. The girls are headed for Noble and open with Mount Saint Mary’s (1-3) at 4 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. Noble and Bridge Creek are on the other side of the bracket.
The Cashion and Crescent teams will travel to Okarche for the Three Rivers Tournament this weekend. The Crescent girls get tournament host Okarche (7-4) tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. The Cashion girls are in the opposite bracket and get Watonga (4-3) at 3:20 p.m. tomorrow. The Crescent boys also drew Okarche (10-1) in their opener at 11:20 a.m. The Cashion boys play the nightcap at 7:20 p.m. against Oklahoma Bible Academy (1-2).
It should be a great weekend for basketball at all the tournaments.
