Guthrie Tennis Goes to State

The Guthrie boys’ tennis No. 1 doubles team finished seventh at the state tournament in Oklahoma City this past weekend.

Zale Coleman Hill and Ryan Taylor faced topseeded Heritage Hall in the first round Friday. The Chargers, who went on to win the championship, defeated Guthrie 6-0, 6-1. Guthrie rebounded in the second round, defeating Lawton MacArthur in three sets, 1-6, 6-0, 7-6.

Saturday morning, Hill and Taylor returned for the elimination round and defeated 6-seeded Claremore 6-4, 6-3. Guthrie then lost to 7-seeded Carl Albert 6-1, 7-6. In the final round, the Bluejays defeated Tahlequah in split sets 6-4, 5-7, 7-3 to secure seventh place out of 16 teams.
