Guthrie Splash Pads Open Full-Time & Free Swimming at Pelican Bay to End Sunday, August 13th

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

With the decision to close Highland Park Pool due to drought conditions in Logan County, the City of Guthrie implemented the Summer Swimming Program with Pelican Bay and the First Capital Trolley. Since Monday, June 19th, the City has sponsored almost 3,000 entries to Pelican Bay and more than 50 shuttle rides with the First Capital Trolley. City staff is grateful to have provided this service to our community and hope that the program helped alleviate the disappointment with the closure of the Highland Park Pool. The City would also like to thank our partners at Pelican Bay and First Capital Trolley for their assistance in making this program a success.

City staff has scheduled the program's sunset date for Sunday, August 13th. Guthrie residents have two more weeks to enjoy free shuttle rides and free entry to Pelican Bay, With water level improvements, the City has now been able to open up the Mineral Wells and Banner Park splash pads full-time. The splash pads will close for the season Monday, Sept 4th (Labor Day).

The Trolley operates as follows: Monday - Saturday: The Trolley leaves from Highland Park at 11:30 AM and returns to Highland Park at 2:30 PM. Patrons of the Trolley will arrive when Pelican Bay opens at noon and have roughly 2 hours to swim and enjoy the aquatics center before heading back to Guthrie at 2:30 PM. Those who wish to use the Trolley must RSVP (details below) by noon the day before so the Trolley can plan what size shuttle will be needed. **Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult to visit Pelican Bay. Any person under the age of 18 without their parent must have a signed parental form to ride the trolley.

Guthrie residents who do not wish to use the Trolley can still receive free admission to Pelican Bay Aquatics Center by presenting proof of residency with a valid driver's license or with a recent utility bill from the City of Guthrie.
