Guthrie AJROTC defeats Clinton AJROTC

Guthrie AJROTC defeated Clinton AJROTC 839.3 to 704.9 in the 2024 National Air Rifle New Shooter League. Guthrie AJROTC was led by Alycea Reese who shot a 215.0. The remaining contributing members were Garrett Looney, Mason Triplett, and Tyler Lawson. They are from Guthrie, OK, and are coached by Kyle Brede.

Overall Guthrie AJROTC is ranked forty-third. They have a 2 - 4 record.

Clinton AJROTC was led by Karen Chicas-Vargas who shot a 213.8. The remaining contributing members were Kei Ellis Suber, Zoey Horne, and Theona Johnson. Clinton AJROTC is from Clinton, SC, and is coached by CPT Joseph Williams.

Overall Clinton AJROTC is ranked fifty-sixth. They have a 1 - 5 record.

This coming week Guthrie AJROTC has a bye week. While Clinton AJROTC will compete against Washburn Rural AFJROTC from Topeka, KS. Washburn Rural AFJROTC currently has a 1 - 4 record.

These two teams are competing in the National Air Rifle “New Shooter” League. Sponsored by Scopos, the league is a national team league exclusive to athletes in their first year of competition. Teams are from high schools and junior rifle clubs throughout the United States. Over 10 weeks each team competes in 8 games. Each week, each team is paired with another team with a near equal skill level.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, kneeling, prone, and standing. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete’s total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
