Guthrie Public Schools announced May 14 the Guthrie High School graduation ceremonies, originally scheduled for Jelsma Stadium this Friday, will now take place at the Lazy E Arena. This decision is based on the current forecast of possible severe weather and heavy rains forecast for this week. The scheduled starting time will remain 7:30 p.m.
The seniors will hold a graduation practice at the arena beginning at 10 a.m. Friday. The current protocols in place at the Lazy E Arena include a suggestion of masks. Attendance will not be restricted. On Friday evening, the building will open to the public at 6 p.m.
“We are thankful for the option of an indoor graduation venue to assure we do not have to postpone the ceremonies,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Simpson said. “The Lazy E Arena staff continue to be incredibly supportive of our community. This is what the class of 2021 deserves to celebrate their accomplishments.”
