The City of Guthrie is still seeking to fill the vacant city council position representing Ward III after the seat became available following the resignation of Gaylord Z. Thomas in December.
On Thursday, at 1:30 p.m., City Clerk Kim Biggs drew randomly from the names of current City Council Members to determine the make-up of the Nominating Committee for the Vacant Ward III City Council Position. City Manager Leroy Alsup witnessed the drawing and City of Guthrie’s Aaron Ryburn videotaped it.
The three names drawn were Steven J. Gentling, Jeff Taylor, and Don Channel. The three alternates were Jim Case, Brian Bothroyd, and James Long.
The City Clerk will be contacting the Nominating Committee Members to schedule interviews with City Council applicants. The City Council will accept applications from interested parties until the position is filled, but to ensure full consideration the application should be received prior to the first review of applicants on Monday, January 6.
Qualifications for the vacant position pursuant to the Guthrie City Charter, are as follows:
1.Must be a citizen of the United States of America and the State of Oklahoma;
2.Must be 21 years of age or older;
3.Must be a registered voter;
4.Must be a resident of the City of Guthrie for two (2) years immediately preceding the date of the last general election; and
5.Must be a resident of the Ward III.
