Bluejackets win Cimmaron boys basketball tournament

Coyle High’s boys basketball team won all three games last weekend to win the Cimmaron Tournament, beating Pioneer-Pleasant Valley 57-46 for the championship.

Jace Lemons and Miguel Howell led the way with 28 and 19 points, respectively, in the final.

The Bluejackets (6-1), who broke away from a 22-18 halftime lead, had seven 3-point field goals, five by Lemons. Coyle also took advantage of 19 Pioneer fouls to convert 16 of 23 free throws. Dillon Holder (6 points) and Quin Amaro (4) added to the offense.

Coyle soared to a 60-36 semifinal win over Dover as Lemons led four players in double figures with 14 points. Amaro (12), Alex Jennings (11) and Holder (10) also chipped in. The Bluejackets hit seven 3-pointers.

The champs started their tournament run with a 66-54 win over host Cimarron.

Earlier in the week, Coyle defeated Glencoe 47-42 and Waukomis 42-32.

Coyle finishes the 2022 part of its schedule against Covington-Douglas on Thursday night at home and at Ripley on Friday night.

Lady Bluejackets finish third at Cimmaron Tournament The Lady Bluejackets had a solid weekend at the Cimmaron Tournament, finishing in third place out of eight teams.

Coyle beat Burlington 47-45 to win the thirdplace game as Naliyah McLaurin led the way with 16 points.

Earlier, Coyle lost a hard-fought overtime game, 41-38, to Pioneer. Sierra Young scored 11 points. There were 41 personal fouls called. Coyle hit 12 of 19 shots at the charity stripe, while Pioneer made 13 of 24.

The Lady Bluejackets (4-3) won their tournament opener 54-9 against an undermanned Billings team.

Coyle split its non-tournament games on Dec. 5 and 6, beating Glencoe 67-35 and losing to Waukomis 56-32.
