A dangerous grassfire broke out near Mulhall Saturday evening, and raged on into the night. Citizens of Mulhall were asked to evacuate the area for their safety, but the evacuation call was lifted about an hour and a half later.
According to Guthrie Fire Chief Eric Harlow, as of noon on Monday March 7, everything is out. The fire started from a few day old ember igniting a brush pile, which caused the 667 acre inferno.
“It was a big team effort by everyone involved,” stated Harlow.
No injuries were inflicted by the fire, and the damage to property was minimal with only minor damage to a storage building near where the fire was located. With the assistance from the forestry service, and districts’ two and three the fire was contained and extinguished fairly quickly with little damage to property or livelihood.
The Board of County Commissioners of Logan County held a meeting Monday March 7 at 9:00 am, where a Resolution establishing a countywide burn ban has been set. This burn ban will last until March 21, where it will be voted on again to determine whether to continue the ban or not.
Until then, the burn ban is in effect for all of Logan County, in order to help prevent any other major fires from breaking out.
