Surging in popularity, CBD inspired one Guthrie citizen to found a business driven by science.
Tammy Buckley was introduced to hemp and the wonders of CBD (cannabidiol) products two years ago when a friend of hers battling breast cancer took an all-natural approach.
“I watched her go from being in bed 20-24 hours a day to 10- 12 hours a day instantly,” Buckley said. Using only CBD products and food as medicine, Buckley says her friend kicked the cancer.
“I had thought about cannabis the way most people do — through the stigma that’s around it — but very quickly found out the benefits of CBD and began using it myself.”
Buckley has extreme ADD and insomnia but says CBD has helped tremendously with both and she is no longer taking pharmaceuticals.
So impressed with the health benefits she discovered, Buckley wanted to share the knowledge and help others. She purchased the highest quality products available and hit the pavement to sell it out of a backpack. Her determination and passion for CBD paid off six months later when she was able to open her own store, The Hemp Shop, located at 112 N. Division St. in downtown Guthrie.
Opened in December 2017, the business that grew out of a backpack and tennis shoes start-up is helping others discover what CBD can do for them.
Knowledgeable about the science behind the plant, Buckley knows CBD as medicine and has carefully selected the highest quality products available on the market. Because the CBD industry is currently unregulated, she urges folks to investigate beyond the label on the products and request third-party testing with a batch number to match the product they are purchasing.
“There’s a lot of dirty products out there so I take pride in having very clean, effective products,” she said.
The Hemp Shop’s inventory includes best-selling topical pain ointments, a full medical line and sublingual tinctures. They also carry CBD bath bombs and soaps, products designed for equine, dog and cat use, and a customer favorite, CBD-infused bottled water.
