The entries have been submitted to The Guthrie Depot with care, in hopes that the winning number of votes will soon be there. The Guthrie Depot’s Second Annual Christmas Tree contest has begun and the winner will receive a free event at The Guthrie Depot during the 2020 year.
Votes for the best tree will be cast during the Territorial Christmas Opening Night and Homes Tour. On Nov. 30, right after the Lighted Christmas Parade, Santa will come down to the Depot for pictures. While kids and adults alike are down there, they can vote on the trees and each one is numbered. On Dec. 7, people will go through the Depot as part of the Homes Tour and vote then as well.
Abigail Ropp, co-owner of The Guthrie Depot, said the contest is an exciting way to support and promote local businesses.
“We have a heart for trying to help our community of businesses. So, it’s also kind of a way to help them promote themselves and something fun.”
All entries must be in the shape of a Christmas tree, but may be assembled of other materials. For example, Ropp said that she encouraged the local liquor store to do one made out of wine bottles.
Entrants are responsible for their own lights and extension cords, which must be labeled and in new or like-new, clean and working condition. All trees must be collected by Jan. 5, 2020.
Speaking of 2020, the winner of this contest will receive a free event at The Guthrie Depot during the 2020 calendar year. Pending availability, the event may be held Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. for a maximum of five hours. The winner is responsible for the set up, tear down and cleanup of the space. Tables are chairs are included.
Businesses and individuals alike will have trees up to promote what they do and who they are. Ropp said one of the best ways to get involved, aside from submitting your own tree, is just coming to the Depot and voting for your favorite.
