Oscar McLaurin, 96, of Guthrie, Oklahoma, was the third child born to Milburn and Evelene (Rogers) McLaurin on February 17, 1929 in Guthrie. He passed away Friday, February 28, 2025 in Guthrie.
Oscar attended Page Elementary School and Faver High Schoolwhere he graduated the 8th grade. Oscar met and married Mary Esther (Holden) Johnson on October 6, 1989. No children were born to this union however he raised her son, Desmair R. Johnson, Sr. from the age of 4 years old until adulthood.
He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 13 years. Oscar retired from the Railroad and then worked as a cement mason for over 40 years–where he was a part of the Laborers
Union Local Chapter 107–and in between, he started working at Trochta’s Flowers and
Garden Center where he continued to work until December 2024.
Oscar is preceded in death by his parents, Milburn and Evelene McLaurin; siblings, Emma Lou Webster, Robert McLaurin, Esco McLaurin, Milburn McLaurin, Jr., Robert Henry, Rebecca Peters, and Otis Jean McLaurin; two children, Marreta Garrett and Douglas McLaurin; grandson, Desmond Fontell Winters; and daughterin-law, Lois Bennittia Thornton McLaurin.
Oscar is also survived by 18 grandchildren, including two special granddaughters that he called peaches and cream, Ka’Maree and Aiyanna Johnson, who were his pride and joy, 28 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A homegoing celebration will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 7, 2025 at Smith Memorial Chapter located at 220 North 1st Street in Guthrie. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Smith- Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
Visitation will be held Thursday, 2:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at SmithGallo Funeral Home.
