Controlled Burn Sparks Large Fire in Southern Logan County

A controlled burn escaped and ignited a massive grass fire in southern Logan County this past Saturday, February 24th. The fire, dubbed the “Woodcrest Fire,” quickly spread, burning over 130 acres of land and reaching a half-mile wide and four miles long.

Guthrie Rotary Student of the Week

The Guthrie Rotary Club Student of the Week is Caleb Canning. He is the son of Codi and Dane Canning. Caleb is a member of the GHS band, the Jazz Band, Concert Band and Marching Band. He belongs to Mu Alpha Theta and the National Honor Society. Caleb is a Valedictorian for 2024.

First Trans-Continental Flight

In 1932, Oklahomans James Herman Banning and Thomas Cox Allen became the first Black aviators to complete a transcontinental flight! They traveled from Los Angeles, California, to Long Island, New York. This 3300-mile trip took 21 days, with an actual flight time of just under 42 hours.
