Guthrie Churches Offering “Ashes to Go” on Ash Wednesday

Trinity Episcopal Church warmly invites the community to attend its annual “Ashes to Go” and Ash Wednesday services, which mark the beginning of the Church season of Lent.

“These events offer a meaningful opportunity for reflection and spiritual renewal,” said The Rev. Robby Trammell, vicar.

On Ash Wednesday, March 5, clergy and volunteers from Trinity and The Presbyterian Church will be stationed outside 310 E. Noble Ave. from 7 to 9 a.m. to offer “Ashes to Go” for motorists and pedestrians.

This initiative takes the ancient Christian tradition of imposition of ashes to the streets, offering a moment of grace for those who cannot attend a traditional service due to work schedules or other conflicts.

Presbyterian minister Katrina Richardson, whose church is located at 102 E. Noble, said, "We welcome individuals of all ages and backgrounds to receive ashes and a blessing as a sign of repentance and renewal."

In addition, Trinity will hold traditional Ash Wednesday services at 6:30 p.m. in its sanctuary. The church is observing its 136th anniversary in Guthrie. This service will include the imposition of ashes, prayers, and hymns that invite participants to reflect on their spiritual journey.

Lent is a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance leading up to Easter. It is a time for self-examination and reflection.

“We encourage everyone to join us in this sacred journey,” Trammell said. “Whether you are a long-time member of the Episcopal Church or exploring your spiritual path, you are welcome to join us in this time of reflection, renewal, and worship.”
