I cannot believe how fast the summer season has seemed to fly by. Soon, our children will be going back to school and fall sports and activities will be taking place. It is an exciting time for all as we plan for the 2021-2022 school year. Each year, the Guthrie Chamber hosts a “Stuff the Bus” campaign where we work with our local businesses to provide much needed school supplies for Guthrie Public Schools. Due to the pandemic, our drive in 2020 was not as successful as years’ past. This year, we have decided to host a new event called the Back to School Bash. This event will take place downtown Guthrie near 1st and Oklahoma Avenue on August 7, 2021 from 11a.m.-3:00 p.m.. We will have a school bus downtown ready to fill with donated school supplies! We will also have inflatables from The Inflatable Carnival brought to you by the Guthrie News Leader, snow cones from TomTom’s Snow Shack, food, music, vendors, shopping and more. Many businesses are offering deals and incentives if you bring in school supplies to donate. We will have a list of those participating businesses posted on our social media and website soon. August 6th through the 8th is also Oklahoma’s Tax Free Weekend so you can shop local and save on clothes and shoes purchases under $100. Come downtown and spend the day with us on August 7th!
I will take this opportunity to encourage everyone to do their shopping in Guthrie. Our business community offers most everything you need for back to school. No need to drive elsewhere!
I also want to wish each and every student the best of luck this school year and a huge thank you to our educators and all school leaders for providing a sound education for our students.
