The University of Central Oklahoma’s School of Design will present “The Pop-Up Shop at the Department Store,” a free, open-to-the-public event featuring designs, illustrations and artwork created by Central students, alumni and faculty, from 1-7 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Letterpress and Prototyping Lab, 1020 Waterwood Parkway in Edmond.
Each piece displayed will be available for purchase with all proceeds benefitting improvements to design equipment and facilities. The diverse range of work displayed will be priced for all audiences, starting from $5 student illustrations to larger-scale alumni work. Design pieces will vary in format from oil paintings and sketches to 3-D works.
“We’ve been active in Heard on Hurd and in the Plaza Festival and this is our second pop-up shop at the Letterpress Lab,” said Amy Johnson, M.F.A., director of the UCO School of Design.
“The excellence of our student work has been recognized by ‘Print,’ ‘CA’ and ‘How’ magazines, the American Advertising Federation, AIGA Flux, Graphex, Graphic Design USA and the Clios.”
All work featured in the pop-up shop has been donated by UCO design students, alumni and faculty in support of UCO’s Design Capital Projects and Improvements Fund, ensuring that 100% of proceeds will directly benefit updates to design facilities.
“Our goal is to provide an opportunity for the community to see and own some of our student’s work, as well as to generate funding for improving our facilities to support the growth of the School of Design,” said Johnson.
