The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has released information on two men related to the murder of Joey Angelo in Guthrie. The suspects are Reggie Dewayne Smith, left, and Derrick Eugene Smith, right. The two men are cousins. Reggie Smith is currently in the Logan County Jail, Derrick Smith remains at large at this time.
Two warrants for arrest have been issued in the case of the homicide in Guthrie earlier this month. An area resident, 24-year-old Joey Angelo was shot throughout the body 36 times while responding to a call from a friend in Guthrie who suspected a robbery. Upon arriving, Angelo was shot to death.
In that same week, Reggie Dewayne Smith, 38-years-old, was arrested on an outstanding warrant that was unrelated to the homicide. He was booked in the Logan County jail where he remains. On Wednesday April 12, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation special agents working on the case informed Smith of a first degree murder warrant for his arrest in the Angelo homicide.
At this time, no comment has been made as to how his relation to the case was discovered.
According to OSBI agents, a second warrant has also been issued in the same case. This warrant is for the Derrick Eugene Smith, the cousin of the man currently sitting in the county jail for the crime.
OSBI agents and Guthrie Police are working on following up any possible leads to bring the case to an end. Any information regarding the case can be given to the OSBI at 800-522-8017.
